"That twilight between dreaming and full awakening is often a tremendously creative time for me. Images floating freely often reveal themselves then, as pure form. Gradually dawning consciousness allows me to manipulate those configurations, and beings emerge."
-- Lorraine VailIn the fantasy world of artist, sculptor Lorraine Vail, illusions become reality and the incredible is credible. Combining realism, imaginative characters, and narrative, Vail creates modern myths. With much attention to composition and form, she maintains her subjects anatomical integrity while stretching and distorting recognizable features to their limit with a freely expressionist style.
A solid traditional background lends sculptural strength and integrity of form to Lorraine Vail's work. An apprentice at fifteen in the studio of a noted painter, she then earned a full four-year scholarship based on her artistic achievements. With a B.F.A. in Illustration she worked as a freelance artist in NewYork and Philadelphia. In the '80s her interests turned to sculpting and the well received work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. Her sculptures have been commissioned by business organizations and institutions, and are part of public and private collections throughout the world. Vail is currently preparing for shows in the U.S. and Europe.
