Nathan Oliveira was born in 1928, in Oakland, California. Since the 1950's, his work has been shown in museums, universities, and galleries, throughout the world. Oliveira's impressive career began as a painter, lithographer, and print-maker. In the early 1980's, he began a series of bronze sculptures, cast by Artworks Foundry. His bronze figures are compelling studies in vulnerability and endurance, charged with both energy and restrained pathos. Oliveira's figures speak eloquently of time and decay, destruction and perishability, and of a will to endure and to create that persists in spite of those things.
